Student & Alumni Testimonials

Learn more about why our students love AMPD.

Something that I love about our program is how close we all are. Not only with our peers, but also with all our professors and even our musicians. This program offers so many opportunities and shows you that there are so many different career options within dance, some that I didn't know were possible.

Kristina Paulovits

Fourth-Year Dance Student

What I enjoy most about the screenwriting program is how hands-on it is. They really give us time to start with an idea and develop it. Through my courses, I even get to go from script to screen myself. It's cool to have both the script and the film in my hands.

Daniela Corallo

Second-year Screenwriting Student

I chose to come to AMPD because York offers the only university-level screenwriting program in the entire country. The networking opportunities here, combined with being located in Toronto—the hub of Canada's film industry—definitely played a key role in my decision to join this program.

Victoria Austin

Second-year Screenwriting Student

One thing I love about the Digital Media program is that it’s at the intersection of art and technology. I’m learning incredible technical skills and I’m using that to create art in so many different forms. I have so much creative freedom.

Prachi Sadhwani

Fourth-year Digital Media student

International Student – India/Jamaica

AMPD has really helped me grow as both a painter and an artist. I’ve learned so much from professors who are actively working in the field, so they’re up-to-date with what’s happening in the industry. I feel really prepared to create my portfolio and apply for future job opportunities.

Karina M

Fourth-year student, Visual Arts - Art History (BA)

I think my favourite thing about the Theatre program is how intimate it is and how you get to know every single person. It feels very welcoming and engaging. I'm learning skills that I will definitely be using.

Sean French

Second-year Theatre student

As an international student, I feel that AMPD has a very welcoming community. Since my first year, I've learned things from screenwriting to film analysis to spending time on set. I like that I can choose what interests me.

Why AMPD

5 ways we prepare you for success.

A group of people collaborating on a creative production, with some sitting and others operating equipment on a stage-like set.

Creative community, not competition.

AMPD's core is its community, a network of collaboration-minded contemporaries excited to create beyond their imagination. You'll be pushed by professors and classmates alike to create bigger and bolder. Still, you'll never be alone in your pursuit of authentic expression.

Creativity as a communal activity is a founding principle of AMPD - artists don't exist in vacuums, so neither should their work. At AMPD, you'll be encouraged to connect with peers inside and outside the classroom with the next generation of arts.

EXPLORE STUDENT LIFE

Interdisciplinary learning in the arts.

At AMPD, you're encouraged to explore across styles, art forms and industries. Take lessons in acting or music composition while pursuing a film degree. Minor in gender studies or philosophy while majoring in design. Collaborate with visual artists on your virtual reality video game.

You'll be prepared to enter any industry as a complex problem solver who understands the unique intersections of industry and art.
